Benny Green, a celebrated jazz pianist, moved to New York at 19 to join Betty Carter’s band and has since played with jazz legends like Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard, and the Ray Brown Trio. His debut album Prelude was released in 1988, followed by seven albums with Blue Note Records. In 2000, he signed with Telarc Records and collaborated with guitarist Russell Malone. Since 2013, Green has released five albums on Sunnyside Records, with a solo piano recording in the works. Green remains committed to playing authentic, straight-ahead jazz: “Playing honest jazz is precious to my human existence.” As Downbeat puts it, his writing is sharper than ever, and The New York Times praises his funky, virtuosic style. NPR calls him “a joyful guardian of bebop.”
